Email services limit the total size of attachments, and attachments grow by about a third when they are sent. SelfKit takes that into account, so the video goes through the first time.
Gmail file size limits
| Platform | Plan | Limit | We compress to | Compress |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gmail | All accounts | 25 MB | ≈ 18.2 MB | Compress |
How to send a video on Gmail
- 1
Pick your email service above and compress the video.
- 2
Download the result.
- 3
Create a new email and attach the downloaded file.
- 4
Keep other attachments small — the limit applies to all of them together.
Common problems
- A 24 MB file does not fit into a 25 MB limit
- Attachments are encoded for sending, which makes them about 37% bigger. We compress to the size that still fits after encoding.
- The email offers a cloud link instead
- Gmail and Outlook switch to Drive or OneDrive links for big files. Compress the video to send it as a normal attachment.
- The recipient cannot play the video
- SelfKit always saves MP4 (H.264) — it plays on every phone and computer.
